Phyllosticta leaf spot on ornamental plants

Wet spring weather can lead to higher incidence of fungal leaf spots. One of the less common leaf spot causing fungal groups found during cool spring weather are in the genus Phyllosticta. These fungi typically causes more cosmetic than serious damage. Removing symptomatic leaf tissue from the growing area may help reduce the disease pressure in following seasons and years. Minimize leaf wetness and improve air circulation in areas where ornamental plants are experiencing leaf spots. Please refer to our Extension publication on disease management of ornamental plants for more information.
